rewrite #2
labels week 9 and rewrite 2.
After watching all the videos I was intrigued by a few points of view. First of all, it's the phrase "dark patterns". Dark Patterns are tricks used in websites and apps to trick you into doing things you didn't intend to do, such as purchasing or signing up for something. (Harry Brignull). A simpler way is to do the wrong things to benefit the company and the organization.
Today "Dark pattern" refers to web or application software developers using interface design, tricks to take advantage of influence, and trust to trick someone into getting information or convincing real victims. do something, or some other technique to direct users to do things they wouldn't otherwise have done.
How do "dark pattern" "trick" users? Dark pattern developers have used color, button placement, ambiguous or confusing language, or in many cases some checkboxes that have been checked by default, to guide users to make choices. choose more favorable to the developer.
The "dark pattern" is carefully created intentionally, with a deep understanding of human psychology, but does not attract any user's attention, thereby making it possible to complete a simple "task".
A fairly typical example is that "share" or "like" on social networks like Facebook and Twitter also means that users are creating data for third parties to collect, analyze and use. exploit. Advertisers will "buy" this information to hit the right tastes of the target customer group, thereby bringing higher efficiency than advertising on television or other traditional forms of newspapers.
It has become a problem that causes a lot of frustration for users as well as awkwardness to be able to sanction any company. Because according to the video "dark patterns" are extremely sensitive and lie between the boundaries of illegal and legal (Nerdwriter1).
I continue to be intrigued by the phrase "Propaganda". According to Bernays' book, Propaganda, in its broadest sense, is the mechanism by which ideas are disseminated on a large scale. In essence, propaganda is a type of communication used to influence the way a group of people thinks. It is used to change their decision or opinion about a particular product, cause, topic, or problem. To replace the remaining facts, they use emotions and love messages. emotions to make people feel a certain way. Essentially, they are trying to hijack the emotional center of your brain so you create emotions instead of rational decisions.
Propaganda can be of many different types, but every type of propaganda is designed to influence your thoughts, opinions, or decisions. A fairly common effect is the bandwagon, which is understood that everyone does and you have to follow everyone (Aaron,2018). This technique exploits the fear in each person, everyone will choose the child. Seems like most people go, because they think it's safe and then it makes people feel like they're part of the crowd and just doing what everyone else is doing.
An example is when, on social networking sites, your friends show off new shoes of some famous brand that you didn't know about before. And you don't want to fall behind or become a laggard. This makes you immediately buy yourself an identical shoe, regardless of whether it suits you.
Through this, I can draw that the concept of Media Ethics is extremely sensitive. If we don't have enough information and a vision on the matter we can turn ourselves into crooks or victims.
